Starting Community Revitalization Action Programs (S.C.R.A.P.)

The SCRAP program is a hands-on program where staff and volunteers seek out the needs of individuals within the community through door-to-door and heart-to-heart communications. The goal is to assess the needs and implement a realistic plan to meet them. Primary focus will be the elderly, handicapped and single family homes.

About the Program

scrap After identifying a property or community area needing revitalization, and getting the necessary permission or permits, volunteers set out to make repairs, do clean up, and make general improvements. Often this work is done for those who can no longer do these things for themselves or are overwhelmed by the size of the project.

The SCRAP program brings out the best in the community. Often during our projects members of the neighborhood pitch in with helping hands and support. There is an understanding that raising up your neighbor provides a lasting benefit to everyone. Improving external appearances also helps to bring about internal changes which in turn helps the way folks see their community for the better.

JDIN also partners with Habitat for Humanity to put the finishing touches on new homes. Volunteers lay sod, do landscaping, and perform other tasks in order to ready the home for its new occupants.
